Hey

Um yea I'm running a Pathfinder game up in the training room 1 to before 4 starting this Wednesday and then continuing every week after that. Beginners definitely welcome as I would probably dedicate the initial session to character gen and maybe start the plot and things!

I'm running the Rise of the Runelords adventure path starting with Burnt Offerings ( not an ominous title at all.. ). Character gen will happen on the day and I'll try to print a few character sheets.

Okay, that's all. Reply if interested and things!

I'm probably going to be a bit late to the start of the game tomorrow, sorry. I'm finally caving the peer pressure and going to see the Muppets movie. Blame my coworkers.

Pathfinder - Rise of the Runelords Empty Re: Pathfinder - Rise of the Runelords

Post by Azgoron 2012-02-25, 21:19

Due to the fact that most of the characters have been completed, I thought I'd go into a little detail of what you would be expecting on Wednesday plus a few background information and ways for your characters to be there. Oh and welcome to the planet of Golarion Smile

The Swallowtail Release is a holiday for the deity Desna (God of Travellers, Luck and Dreams) held every year on the first day of Autumn. In this holiday, the faithful release a large collection of Swallowtail butterflies to commemorate the event where Desna fell to the mortal world after a battle with her archrival, Lamastu (God of all the malformed and misshapen creatures). She was healed by a blind child so the story goes and she saved the child by turning him into a butterfly.

Anyway, Desna has a large stronghold of followers in Varisia and in the sleepy town of Sandpoint, the Swallowtail Festival is held every year on this day. Merchants sell souvenirs and other trickets which they would be happy to pay a sellsword to protect their goods. Performers and bards come to this festival for the opportunity to perform before a large crowd and to also gain notice in the Sandpoint Theater which has quite a notoriety in the general area. Other characters might just be looking for contacts.

This year ( 4707 ) in Sandpoint, a brand new church would be opened after the last church was tragically burned down as well as a sizeable percentage of Sandpoint in the winter only 5 years ago. Also with this time another tragic event occured but the populace would not open their hearts to strangers and travellers and prefer to console themselves in the fact that the new church would finally allow the populace to look to the future.

At this year, on the first day of autumn, you are attending this festival. Ideas about your opportunities and reasons for coming have been explored above. This is where we would pick up on Wednesday. Oh and by the way, good luck....

I suppose I could also provide a few links of resources on the Internets scratch

A nice Wiki on the campaign setting of Golarion and the universe can be found here.

All of the Pathfinder resources are also released on the Open Game license and the official reference document which includes the main line of books released by Paizo can be found here.

An unofficial Pathfinder reference document which (in my opinion) is easier to use and it also consolidates a lot of a seperate books into one for easy reference e.g. the feat(ability or talent) tree. This can be found here.

Character sheets can be found at the Pathfinder database (full of third-party stuff) here.
And finally (sorry), really nice class specific sheets can be found here.

Here's my Dwarven Cleric, Baern Greyhammer.

Playing a healer, so I'll be there to pick up the pieces when things go terribly wrong. I also hope to occasionally whomp evildoers with a hammer, but that might be pushing it.

Pathfinder - Rise of the Runelords Empty Re: Pathfinder - Rise of the Runelords

Post by Azgoron 2012-03-01, 10:55

First session yay!

Everyone gets 565xp for the troubles they had to "endure" (really?) in the lowly town of Sandpoint. In case you are curious, this campaign uses the fast progression of class advancement. The next level up will be at the magical value of 1300xp.

So Sandpoint has been raided by these pesky goblins and their inconvenient attitudes. After battling a few of the goblins that actively attacked you, you came to the aid of Aldern Foxglove who seemed to be dressed in noble clothing. After defeating the little menaces terrorising the poor citizen, he thanked you profusely and left open the offer of seeing him in the Rusty Dragon (tavern) where he stayed and rewarding them properly.

There were a few rumours afterwards of the fact that Sheriff Hemlock had actually captured a poor little goblin and was failing at getting any relevant information from the critter. Fijit and Baern got a few facts of the goblin, namely that a "longshank" (human the Sheriff mentions to the PCs afterwards) was involved, that the "longshank" raided the graveyard with a group of goblins while the other groups distracted the populace and the forces. Heading toward the graveyard, the Sheriff and the group with him realises that Father Tobyn's remains were stolen from the cemetary. Father Tobyn died 5 years ago in the fire that swept Sandpoint, starting at the old church.

While this was happening, Worf was getting inebriated and Tom's character was busy frantically getting his payment for the extra level of "protecting" he did today.

You are all then staying at the Rusty Dragon tonight. Aldern Foxglove would see you in the morning and abide by his offer, but with a little extra task if your interested.

Pathfinder - Rise of the Runelords Empty Re: Pathfinder - Rise of the Runelords

The Lost Empire of Thassilon

This sprawling empire existed and controlled the west of Avistan from times pre-Earthfall (the empire's old ruins and monuments still line and dot the country of Varisia). Relevant documents and useful materials on this powerful empire were lost to the sands of time but it is believed that the empire was formed from rebels of Azlant (another empire many scholars believe is the tip of human culture, magic and technology). When they sailed east and hit the coast of Avistan ( where Varisia currently lies), an Empire with the primary purpose of peace and harmony within it's borders. Powerful Rune magic (which some scholars say is the Language of Creation from the Great Old Ones themselves) were used to keep the empire going.

The mysteries of this realm are of a prime interest to any potential scholar, mage or inquisitive fellows. Alas, the Empire, according to legend, fell and began to decay long before Earthfall occured and Golarion was cast into the Age of Darkness. The Emperor of the empire grew old and give the influential Rune Lords of the empire (a group of mages and wizards who once served as advisors to the Emperor) more and more control. One theory believed that the Rune Lords, after the Emperors death, each individually set out their plans for domination of the Empire and beyond. Another theory was that the Rune Giants who were bound, slaved and used for building horrific and indulgent monuments of the Lords rebelled against the Empire. Ultimately, no one knows the true history of this Empire as Earthfall removed a large chunk of evidence of the true nature of this empire.

The magic that has preserved these monuments and ruins are finally beginning to weaken and many Thassillon scholars would be trying to piece together the mystery. The ruined tower looking upon the coast which you saw when you entered Sandpoint (called the Old Light by the locals) is one said monument which nobody knows the true purpose of.

Due to this session being plot heavy, there are few XPs given out this week. In total, for the goblin who set up shop in the Baretts and the three goblins you killed in the Glassworks, you gain a total of 165xp. A synopsis will follow when I can be bothered... Smile

Oh hey ho...

I fully intend to run the game this week starting at 12 as usual. I am going to try and get this story arc finished this week and then allow time (probs a month or two) for crafting, damage control (Baern being such a player...) and other stuff of your suggestions.

I'll start the next part if the party is still intact and not in different places.

I will be in uni early tomorrow studying, my intention is to study all day and not attend Pathfinder.

However, in the highly likely scenario that work has ground to a halt by 12:00 I will come along and play.

Wow... that was a productive session... At least I got a Shirt and a free muffin Smile. In game, the cast has moved in total from the entrance outside the dungeon to the entrance inside.

Anyway, the same distractions would not be apparent next time we do this. The game is not running next week due to exams ( which I totally need to start revision properly for ... whopsey.... )

I had an idea for the week after until the end of May to move the game to the afternoon slot on Fridays before Peter's game. This would mean the people travelling in would have an extra free day as such. Personally, this means I could travel home.

Anyway, reply with what you think of this arrangement.

Oh hey ho Razz

Just to mention my intentions for the following weeks as too if the game would run over the summer. I want the first arc to be finished in the next couple of weeks and I probably wouldn't want to continue the story if half or more of the people can't show up. If a majority cannot attend then I'll leave the campaign until the start of next year.

Btw, finished reading all of the campaign for the plot, nasty beasties and the like. And I have to say good luck... These poor citizens of Sandpoint have more than pesky, idiotic goblins on their tail..

Just a heads up - the training room has been booked by someone else between 9:30am and 3:00pm on Friday 18th May. This does not affect Peter's game, but you will NOT be able to run Rise of the Runelords in the training room at that time.

Hello sorry for the bother...

Just to reiterate for the people who didn't catch it. I was planning to have the game the Friday coming on the afternoon but it appears that the Unions battle stations have been set...

So the game will run after Lynne's Deathwatch game next Thursday(17th) at 4pm in the Training Room as always.

After I complete this part of the story, I'm taking a break from this campaign for the summer. When I find a flat though, there is the opportunity that I would want to run a few smaller adventures (modules) and other ideas during the summer if people are interested.

As some of you now know, I am not running this game anymore. I am probably concentrating on my homebrew and other games.

I will assume for completion that the threat to Thistletop was removed. The goblins, without a definate leader, have retreated and disbanded into the frontier no longer a threat to the coastal population. The rangers of the wastes would handle any incursions.

Anyway, thanks guys for tolerating my first game Very Happy
